Oak Hill Cemetery, Curwensville, PANotes - Esther was just 27 years old when she died [her youngest child Mary just ten months old]. Her husband Edward, who was only 34 years old, never remarried and raised all his children as a single father. [3]
Esther “passed away on the morning of July 4, 1861, and so greatly was she esteemed and beloved in her town that all patriotic demonstrations were suspended and not an unnecessary sound was heard there during the day through respect to her memory.” [4]

Mary E Mason, the sister of Esther Ann, is likely to be the seventeen year old living in the Edward Patton household in Curwensville, Clearfield County, Pennsylvania in 1860. So it would appear to me that after Esther's death, a younger sister came to help her family with the four motherless children. [General source's data is most likely from Census records.] [6]
I have a birth record of my grandmother states she and both her parents were Native American but no tribe was listed.* I am so lost with this I have been searching for the past 14 years. I found my grgrandfather death record, but many of the entries are questionable as he died in an infirmary and the information was given by the head nurse.
My grgrandmother was Mary Mason b-abt 1859 PA. I found her listed on the 1880 census but only her place of birth was listed as PA-both parents were left blank place of birth; same for my grgrandfather parents blank on the census. [7]
Compiler is not sure how this Mary Mason mentioned above is connected to this Esther Ann Mason. Esther’s sister Mary E. was born about 1843. [2]
*I too had once heard that Esther Ann Mason may have been a native American. but have apparently lost my written reference to that speculation. A DNA test submitted by one of my sons does not indicate any Native American ethnicity in our ancestry, but is not definitive. [2]
