    • Letter to David from hs mother Talitha

      September 9, 1888
      Springville, Utah

      Mr. David Cheney,

My dear son, it is with pleasure I take my pen to answer your most welcome letter that I received yesterday. Was glad to hear from you again. It gives me great joy to hear you say you are well and feeling in good spirits.

I am well and enjoying myself fine. I am so busy drying fruit and making preserves. Time passes so fast it seems as if I had been here only a few days and it has been five weeks.

You wanted me to tell you where I would be on my birthday. I will be here for we are not going home until October. I was pleased to hear that you had a present for me. I will appreciate highly. Assure you, be it ever so small. I may not get here on my birthday (September 22) but that won’t make any difference I will be just as glad to get it. It will be a birthday present.

We went to meeting today and heard Brother Celsy. Lodema was there and she came home with us. She is feeling well and the children are well.

David, I feel sure that the Lord has blessed you and your family since you went away. Lodema has better health than she ever had since I knew her. The children are a little sick sometimes but not serious. I know the Lord hears our prayers and answers them. I never felt better in my life. I hear from home often. They are well.

David, you have nothing to discourage you, but everything to encourage you. I must close. Good-bye. God bless you and preserve you is my prayer.

      Talitha Avery

NOTE: David had been on his mission to the Southern States for about 9 months.

On November 25, 1888 she wrote:

William and I went to the Temple and done the work we wanted to do for his father and William. William was sealed to his father and me. I am glad to have got that done. We went all through the Temple, clear to the top of the North Tower. It is the most beautiful place ever any one saw, so Heavenly.

David, when you come home, we will all go to the temple then. [2]
