Dedicated to all those in pursuit of our ancestry.
    Notes
    • Came to Clearfield County in 1798. [9]

    • Abraham and his sister Mary married siblings Margery and Matthew Caldwell. [10]

    • “Abraham was born in New Jersey* and when he was about six years old came to Clearfield County in 1798. He was considered an excellent hunter and a champion pilot in running coal arks down the Susquehanna River to Harrisburg and other lower cities.

“Came to Clearfield Co., in 1798, at the age of three. While growing to manhood he and his brothers, assisted his father in clearing a homestead. He was considered to be an excellent hunter and a champion river pilot, in running coal arks down the Susquehanna River to Harrisburg, Pa., and lower cities. In 1817 he purchased a tract of land in the Southern end of what is now Pike Twp., Pa., near the village of New Millport, Pa., where he cleared a fine farm, and reared a family of eight children.” [8]

    • The barn of Abraham Bloom of Pike twp., this county, was entirely consumed by fire on the 30th ult. The barn was nearly new, having been built last summer - valued at seven or eight hundred dollars. How the fire originated is unknown. There not being any fire convenient, nor any of the family about the barn, it is supposed that some other person had either accidentally or intentionally set it on fire. About three hundred dollars worth of Carpenter's Tools, belonging to John L. Rex, together with a several bushels of grain and a barrel of Rice belonging to Mr. Bloom, were also destroyed by the flames.

[I’m not sure this is the same Abraham Bloom this article published June 14, 1854 refers to.] [11]

    • Abraham Bloom was born in New Jersey* and came to Clearfield County in 1798. He married Marjory Caldwell. Their family follows: William A., born October 31, 1817, died September 15, 1898, married Lydia Reams; Samuel, born October 1, 1819, died September 1, 1868, married, 1st Abigail Wise, 2nd, Jane Curry; Levi, born January 10, 1824, died January 5, 1896, married Susannah High; James M., married Margaret Glenn; Amos went West about 1870, married Rebecca McCracken; Elmira, married Moses Wise; Nancy, married Robert Curry; Elizabeth, married, Micahel Rex. [12]

    • Abraham’s [children were] 4 girls and 7 boys. [3]

    • *Despite the fact that several history books report that Abraham was born in New Jersey, this is probably not the case. Records indicate that long prior to 1795 his family had moved to Potter Township, (then) Cumberland County, PA. Abraham’s older sister Mary was born in Potter Township as were his two siblings Sarah and James that followed. Of course there is always the possibility that Abraham’s parents were visiting family in New Jersey when his mother gave birth. [10]

    • Living in Abraham and Margery’s home in June 1870 in addition to what appears to be their son Amos and his family is an 18-year-old Ella Bloom (b. circa 1852). It is unclear who this individual might be. [7]

    • Living next door to Abraham and Margery in the 1870 census is their son Levi and his family. Also two houses from his nephew John (1809-1883). [7]
